Maker Faire

Relief Scupture in Light

Type: Maker Table/Exhibit
Program Area: Arts

Day/Time: Sunday, April 23

Location: To be determined

This process started as the ultimate way to carve a jack-o-lantern, but other materials can be used with a light-box to great artistic effect. Any semi-transparent material can be carved in bas-relief to create a design that is only revealed once the material is back-lit.

The table will include necessary materials (pumpkins, foam core, light box, projection and tracing equipment, carving tools), and a few examples with different materials at different stages of development. I'll be in the process of carving one during the exhibit just to show how fun it is.

I'm primarily a documentary video-maker and video artist, but I can't help myself from straying into other media, or any other sort of hands-on fiddle-faddle. Right now I'm working on: a driftwood scupture, a stencil painting, and a lamp. I also do bonsai, tai chi, and surf.
